About this dataset
This map contains 78 sea turtle occurrence records dated 2020–2025 from GBIF publisher datasets. Records can describe sightings, strandings, specimens or survey catches.
The geographic filter is 6 degrees west to 37 degrees east and 30 to 46 degrees north. This rectangle covers the Mediterranean region but also includes adjacent land and some Atlantic and Black Sea locations. It is not a sea boundary.
Seven living sea turtle species were queried by exact GBIF species keys. Only records and publisher datasets marked CC BY 4.0 or CC0 are included. iNaturalist datasets and derivatives are excluded.
Each point retains its species, source date, record type, dataset citation and licence. Source coordinate uncertainty is included when available. No photographs or recorder contact fields are included.
These are uneven observations, not a population estimate, animal movement track or complete survey. Duplicate occurrence identifiers and records marked absent are excluded. Source data was retrieved on 15 September 2026.
