About this dataset

  • This map groups the 846 RESOLVE 2017 ecoregions into 14 biomes. The unclassified Rock and Ice area is excluded.
  • Neighbouring ecoregions in the same biome are combined. The ecoregion dataset provides the more detailed view.
  • Use the map to compare broad ecological zones and colour areas for a geography lesson.
  • The shapes are simplified, and this classification is a dated reference. It does not show current land cover.
  • The standard map view ends near 85 degrees north and south. The download retains all source coordinates, including polar areas.
