About this dataset

This map groups the 846 RESOLVE 2017 ecoregions into 14 biomes. The unclassified Rock and Ice area is excluded.
Neighbouring ecoregions in the same biome are combined. The ecoregion dataset provides the more detailed view.
Use the map to compare broad ecological zones and colour areas for a geography lesson.
The shapes are simplified, and this classification is a dated reference. It does not show current land cover.
The standard map view ends near 85 degrees north and south. The download retains all source coordinates, including polar areas.

The download includes all 14 features as area groups. Coordinates use longitude and latitude in WGS84.

The preparation date is when we prepared this dataset. Read the source notes for the dates covered by the data.
